Science Camps

This page gives a detailed description of camps that are Science only. We also have camps that are combinations of science with art or science with technology or all three. To see those you will need to click on the link to the left. To see all camps for a specific age group, please click on the Ages link.

Science only subjects for this summer have two themes:

  • Investigative Sciences
  • Time, Space and Flight Camps

These are described below.

Investigative Science

Option S 4-Spies and Sleuths (Ages 6-8) 

  • This is a great “Who dun it?” adventure!
  • Dr. Lipid is back and boy is he mad! Our arch enemy is up to no good and we have to stop him!
  • We are the O.X.Y.S. (Only Excellent Youth Scientist ) and we must match our wits against Dr. Lipid, Head of the Organization of M.O.R.O.N.S. (Magical Ogres Reshaping Our Natural Systems). The children will learn many exciting science principles as they learn to solve a crime scene and track Dr. Lipid!
  • In order to succeed at solving this crime we must unravel clues and secret messages-both invisible and criptic. Each clue will make us learn a new skill to be better investigative scientist. These skills include:
    • Becoming fingerprint, foot print and lip print detectives!
    • Learning Spy Games
    • Making Alarms to protect our headquarters-the children will learn about circuits.
    • Make and take home a periscope to spy around corners with!
    • Using microscopes we will learn to analyze hair, fibers and powders
    • Useing flame test and LOTS of chemistry to analyze powders.
  • The children will have a grand finale crime scene to practice the skills they have learned.

Option S 5-CSI:  Crime Scene Investigation (Ages 9-12)

Are you ready to understand the serious science that takes place behind the yellow crime scene tape? Well, this is your chance! In order to succeed at solving this crime we must unravel clues and secret messages-both invisible and cryptic. Each clue will make us learn a new skill to be better investigative scientist. These skills include:

  • Learning to dust for and analyze fingerprints
  • Collecting and comparing, foot prints and lip prints
  • Handwriting analysis
  • Using microscopes to analyze hair, fibers and powders
  • Using flame test and LOTS of chemistry to analyze powders.
  • Cell and DNA analysis using microscopes, models and DNA extraction
  • Plant analysis
  • Comparing Bite Marks and skeletal clues
  • Blood and Hair Analysis

Rockets, Flight and Dinosaurs

Option S 1: Rocket Ships and Dinosaurs (Ages 4-5)

This is an exciting camp with all of the hands-on and adventure you and your child can ask for. As you can imagine, this is one of our most popular camps.

  • Our young astronauts will have a blast as they:
    • Go through Astronaut Boot Camp
    • Create Glow in the Dark Galaxies
    • Use balloon rockets, Stomp Rockets and Water rockets and Straw Rockets.
    • They will also experience teacher launched rockets.
    • They will have fun as they learn about planets and galaxies.
  • Our excited time travelers get to Travel back in time to the land of the Dinosaurs in our "Imagine That!" Time machine! While there they will:
    • Make Fossils
    • Create and blast off a volcano that they can take home!
    • Pan for Gold
    • Study dinosaurs
    • Create beautiful crystals
    This camp fills up VERY fast! So sign up soon so YOUR child can have this adventure of a lifetime!

Option S 2: Time and Space Adventures (Ages 6-8)

  • Does your child want to become an astronaut? Do they REALLY like Rockets?
  • Would they like to travel to the time of the dinosaurs? Learn what's deep in a cave? Well, this is the camp they have been waiting for!
  • We take the children on an adventure of a lifetime as we imagine ourselves in prehistoric times where we:
    • Learn about dinosaurs
    • Make fossils and pan for gold!
  • We will study the dynamic earth as we:
    • Build and blast off volcanoes
    • Create a Cave in a Box as we learn about Spelunking
    • Learn about the animals, microbes and geology of cave systems
    • Study and classify Rocks and Crystals and grow our own!
    • Learn about earthquakes and so much more
  • If that's not enough, we will blast off into space as we:
    • Make and blast off Balloon Rockets, Bottle Rockets, Chemical Rockets, Straw Rockets, and Estes Rockets.
    • Learn about Newton's Law as we make a Newtons Car and a Balloon Car and learn the principles of rocket flight
    • Make glow in the dark galaxies
    • Go through astronaut boot camp!
  • Don't miss this exciting adventure! This camp fills up very fast!

Option S 3: BLAST OFF! an Intro to Flight (Ages 9-12)

This exciting program takes our future pilots and astronauts to a whole new level.
  • Join us as we explore the basics of flight. We will learn about Bernoulli's Principal and the forces that affect flight such as Lift, Thrust, Drag and Weight
  • Use our flight simulator and fly radio controlled planes and more!
  • We will learn about overcoming Inertia as we make our own rockets and planes and test them.
  • We will make and use Water and Air Pressure assisted rockets, Chemical rockets and Estes rockets.
