Drones in Flight!

  • Location:  Roswell Parks and Recreation:  East Roswell Park: 
  • Ages:  11-14

Description:  Discover hands on engineering and technology as students begin by building their drone. They will then learn the basics of flight, first by becoming comfortable on a training simulator before moving up to line-of-sight piloting. It’s time to take flight with death-defying aerial maneuvers and experiencing first-hand what drone flying is like at 75 MPH!  Are you ready for this high-octane camp?

Description:  This amazing camp will introduce Video Production and Stop Motion Videos.

Video Production: We will cover the art of composition.  This includes storyboarding lighting, audio, the rule of thirds, and deciding which shots are worthy of final video.

Students will learn the history of filmmaking and the technical skills needed for filming and editing.  Each day will build upon what was learned previously with the final product being displayed at the First Annual Imagine That! Film Festival!

Stop Motion Video Production: Then we are on to an introduction to Stop Motion Videos where students will create their own stop motion film.  Students will need to use their Sequential Reasoning capabilities and thought processes to create their video.  First, students need to lay out a plan that starts with a story-line followed by the storyboard. As students begin to set up their stage they will have to check and test all equipment for glitches!  In stop motion filming, every step must be taken in the correct order, one small movement at a time, just as a robot is programmed to move from point A to point B.  Using logic and creativity results in all around great fun!

Description: An amazing camp using Boost Robots, WeDo Robots, Coding, Stop Motion Video Productions, and Machines

Coding:  How great would it be if you had been able to start writing code at an early age? Our younger students are going to experience 3 or 4 different coding languages in our coding course.  The goal is to expose students to the bare bones of coding languages. They will learn Basic Syntax, Loops and Algorithms with Logo, Scratch, Python or Html.  You will be amazed at how much they learn!

Boost Robot:  

We are so pleased to be able to bring Lego ® Boost ®  to our students at Imagine That!  Boost is the newest robotics kit available to our younger robotics kids. Students will build a base robot as they begin to learn the programming process. All instructions and programming are on an App called Boost by Lego.  The Hub of the robot can connect to the tablet using Bluetooth. Once they comfortable moving their bots they will add a sensor that detects Color and Distance.  It can also double as a light..

  We will then expand the experience by building Vernie, the robot that moves his arms, turns his head and raises his eyebrows to show expressions.  As students build Vernie, the building instructions pause at a few points for programming sessions.  At first, the platform will show the kids how to program specific moves, but as they build the bot students have the opportunity to use what they have learned and program on their own.  We are so excited to get programing with Vernie and your students.   Come and join the fun

WeDo Robot:

Lego ® WeDos Construction Set lets kids have the fun of building exciting robots and then program them to move, make sounds and create background scenes that go with the robot. Students will build the Goal Kicker,Goal Keeper and the Happy Fans activities.  A lever arm moves the Kicker and the Goalkeeper, by a gear that is connected to another gear and so on.  Students will program the motor to move the gears that move the lever to simulate a pair of legs kicking a paper ball, the goalkeeper moving back and forth on a lever arm to protect the goal and the Happy Fans moving up and down using pulleys during a game of Soccer.  Students can also program the screen to show a background of a field or stands full of fans..  How cool!

Machines:

Students will build a Roller Conveyor and a Crane with Lego ® Simple Mechanisms Set.  

As kids build these 2 activities, they will experience and understand how Pulleys work and that there are different types of pulleys.  The great thing about these creations is that each can be motorized!
