This class is an exciting combination of Hands-On Science, Technology and Robotics

We offer our program for Preschool, Early Elementary and Older Elementary. Please click on the age you are interested in. The schedule and registration pages will reflect the correct age group for your school.

The first slide show presents the 3rd-5th Grade MINDSTORMs Robots, Science and Pneumatics program pictures.

The second slide show presents the K-2nd Grade Science, Technology and WeDo Robotics pictures.

If we are not at your school, please talk to the principal about adding our classes. We would love to see you!

K-2nd Grades.

Hands-On Science: What’s It All About?

We will take the children on many adventures as we travel the Hawaiian Isles.  In our interactive story the children will have to solve science riddles first with their brains and then with the hands-on experiments that will prove or disprove their theories.  This is the way we are meant to learn!

Our explorations this year will include:
Þ Treasure Maps Þ Dissecting Owl Pellets Þ Fluorescence
Þ Boats and buoyancy Þ Water experiments  Þ Blasting off volcanos
Þ Insects and Spiders Þ Rockets and Space Þ Rainforest investigations
Þ Oil Spill clean up Þ Fossil digs Þ And LOTS more!

Technology Portion K-2nd

On alternating weeks we will use  LEGO® Education's Technology, Robotics and Programming.  The technology offered depends upon the grade. Some examples of the technology we will be using are:

  • LEGO® Education WeDo™ Robotics.  Come join us as we explore the world of computers and build new and exciting robots.  We will build LEGO models featuring working motors and sensors and  then program our models using a drag-and-drop interface.  This will help your child develop skills in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and language.  For grades 1st-3rd
  • LEGO® Education Technology including Motorized Machines. We will also build many crazy contraptions using simple and motorized  machines, where students will experience hands-on learning about wheels, axles, gears, pulleys, steering, rollers, winch handles, friction and more. Working in teams of two, the children will learn these scientific principles above while getting comfortable with building using the LEGO TECHNIC pieces.  This program will improve the children's problem solving skills while encouraging team work. An example project is one that demonstrates how gears can multiply speed as they build a merry-go-round.  By counting the number of turns and rotations, they will be able to determine the gear ratios.
  • LEGO® Education's Tech Machines and Early Simple Machines! Our youngest students will build working machines with moving parts using small hand friendly tools such as screwdrivers and integrated screws.  They will build fun models like a seesaw, rolling vehicles, spinning tops, rafts and much more as they learn about pulleys, levers, gears, and wheels and axles while exploring energy, buoyancy and balance.  You will know that they are learning but they will think they are just having FUN

3rd-5th Grades

Hands-On Science: Investigative Science

The students will embark on an adventure to discover HOW SCIENCE WORKS! Incorporating both Physics and Physiology, the students will be asked to pose a theory of how the project will come out and then they will participate in hands-on experiments that will prove or disprove their theories. This is the way we are meant to learn!

Their course of study will include:

Þ Potato Launcher Þ Trebuchets Þ Fluorescence
Þ Microscopes, cells & DNA Þ Pulley Systems Þ Egg Drop
Þ Submarines and  buoyancy Þ Water Balloon Helmet Design Þ Liquids in a Vacuum
Þ Model Domes Þ Lights and Lasers Þ And LOTS more!

Technology

  • NXT MINDSTORMS® Robotics and Programming. The students will be challenged to explore an ancient Mayan pyramid, the tomb of King Ixtua, filled with booby traps! The students will build and program different exploratory robots to disable the traps so that they can explore the tomb. They will test not only their programming skills but also their engineering and decision making skills as they determine the best means to accomplish a task. These robots use sound, light, and touch sensors to make the tasks exciting!

  • Motorized Machines and Pneumatics:  The students will build machines that are operated by Pneumatics and Motors.  Explore power systems and components, sequence and control, pressure, prototyping, kinetic and potential energy, wheels, pulleys, axles, gears and much more! View our video here.
