This class is an exciting combination of Hands-On Science, Technology and Robotics

We offer our program for Preschool, Early Elementary and Older Elementary. Please click on the age you are interested in. Please note that some schools are divided k-2nd and 3rd-5th. The schedule and registration pages will reflect the correct age group for your school.

The first slide show presents the 4th-5th Grade MINDSTORMs Robots, Science and Pneumatics program pictures.

The second slide show presents the K-3rd Grade Science, Technology and WeDo Robotics pictures.

If we are not at your school, please talk to the principal about adding our classes. We would love to see you!

This program is TechnoScience (Science and Technology combined) only-if you are interested in Technology only, please follow the button to the right.

K-3rd Grades. Please note that for some schools, the 3rd grade will be in the older class.

Note: Classes will be divided k-1st and 2nd-3rd

Science portion: Science Magic

  • Our science this session will continue with one of our most popular programs:  Science Magic.  We are the OXYS: Only eXcellent Youth Scientist and we have found ourselves deep under the castle of our magical arch enemy Dr. Lipid.
This session will include all new activities that were not done in the first session.  We must use our own knowledge of science to overcome what appears to be magical traps within the castle to find our way out.   We will use a magic wand that makes water change its flow and makes items float in air!  We will put a needle through a balloon with out popping it! The children will use a magic substance that increases in size 100 fold with just a little water! We will use atmospheric pressure to break a stick and LOTS more science magic to solve the traps to escape our snares!

The question is, is it magic or is it Science

Technology Portion K-3rd

On alternating weeks we will use  LEGO® Education's Technology, Robotics and Programming.  The technology offered depends upon the grade. Some examples of the technology we will be using are:

  • LEGO® Education WeDo™ Robotics.  Come join us as we explore the world of computers and build new and exciting robots.  We will build LEGO models featuring working motors and sensors and  then program our models using a drag-and-drop interface.  This will help your child develop skills in science, technology, engineering, amathematics, and language.  For grades 1st-3rd
  • LEGO® Education Technology including Motorized Machines We will also build many crazy contraptions using simple and motorized  machines, where students will experience hands-on learning about wheels, axles, gears, pulleys, steering, rollers, winch handles, friction and more. Working in teams of two, the children will learn these scientific principles above while getting comfortable with building using the LEGO TECHNIC pieces.  This program will improve the children's problem solving skills while encouraging team work. The models demonstrate various physical science and technology concepts, including forces and motion, simple machines, measurement, energy, magnetism, and more.  Students will be applying their understanding of basic mechanical concepts by building models of real-world devices including a folding lawn chair, drawbridge, conveyor belt, turnstile, and crane.  An example project is one that demonstrates how gears can multiply speed as they build a merry-go-round.  By counting the number of turns and rotations, they will be able to determine the gear ratios.
  • LEGO® Education's Tech Machines and Early Simple Machines! Our youngest students will build working machines with moving parts using small hand friendly tools such as screwdrivers and integrated screws.  They will build fun models like a seesaw, rolling vehicles, spinning tops, rafts and much more as they learn about pulleys, levers, gears, and wheels and axles while exploring energy, buoyancy and balance.  You will know that they are learning but they will think they are just having FUN

4th-5th Grades (Includes 3rd grade at some schools)

All New this year: MINDSTORM ROBOTS and Pneumatics

Science     Students will get to study two exciting areas of science this session.

  •  Build a Mag Lev racer!  First the students will get to design and build a mag lev racer which will be used with our track.  Next the students will investigate acceleration, gravity, magnetic attraction and friction as they learn about these amazing trains that travel at speeds over 200 miles per hour!

  •  Fantasy Flights!  We will also be learning the concepts of airplane forces such as lift, thrust, drag, and weight and will understand airfoil theory.  They will build a glider to take home.

Technology

  • MINDSTORM ROBOTICS:The Green City Challenge takes your student on a step-by-step introduction to LEGO® NXT MINDSTORM®  robotics allowing them to be prepare for robotics competitions.  We will guide your student from simple to more advanced programming skills as they are challenged to solve different missions.  They will  apply problem solving to real world engineering challenges related to renewable energy such as power plants, wind turbines and dams.  These robots use sound, light, and touch sensors to make the tasks exciting!
  • LEGO® Education Pneumatics:  NEW this year!  The students will build many machines that are operated by a Pneumatic system.  Explore power systems and components, sequence and control, pressure, prototyping, kinetic and potential energy and much more! View our video here.
