Grades K-2 Robo-Rangers: An Adventure Into Coding, Stop Motion, Robotics & Machines
Coding: NEW! How great would it be if you had been able to start writing code at an early age? Monster Code Schule uses fun characters to turn on Lanterns and collect Stars by drag and dropping commands in a correct sequence. Robo Rangers will learn about algorithms, loops, sequences and conditionals on their way to learning to write code on their own.
Using what they learned with Monster Code Schule, writing and understanding code will come easily to our Robo Rangers because they will begin writing code using LOGO. Once again, they write sequences with loops, conditionals and algorithms, but this time they will write the code with Basic Syntax. Just the first step our Rangers take to unlocking the secrets of computer coding and programming!
Stop Motion Video: NEW! Then we are on to an introduction to Stop Motion Videos where students will create their own stop motion film. Students will need to use their Sequential Reasoning capabilities and thought processes to create their video. Students will lay out a plan that starts with a story-line followed by the storyboard. As students begin to set the stage, they will have to check and test all equipment for glitches! In stop motion filming, every step must be taken in the correct order, one small movement at a time, just as a robot is programmed to move from point A to point B. This helps students to gain an understanding of the concepts introduced in coding! Using logic and creativity results in all around great fun!
Robotics: NEW! Boost Robots: We will be introducing our newest Robot during our class! Boost is the newest robotics kit available to our younger robotics kids. Our students will build and learn to program as they go.
Machines: With Lego Technic bricks our students will learn about simple machines; build different concepts, and learn that there are different types of simple machines. As they advance in understanding, we will build a Gymnast on the parallel bars and a Man Riding a Unicycle and more. All these activities, including the concepts, can be motorized. Rangers can add the motors using ingenuity and understanding of how the axles and gears work with each activity; each works the same way with a little bit of adaptation!
Programming: Fall brings new Adventure Bots for kids at Imagine That! with Lego® WeDo Construction sets! Exploring nature (and imagination) as they build, kids will Ride the rapids in the Canoe, Bungee Jump from the highest heights and learn to ski behind the Ski Boat. Our students will build, then program machines to move, the computer to make sounds, and imaginations to soar! Sequences and programming are being reinforced through each activity.

Coding: New! Imagine That! kids will learn LUA, a Coding Language using CodeCombat! Students will use this platform to learn the science behind computer programming. We choose an Avatar to win armor and gems while writing LUA code and play the game in real time. Writing Basic Syntax first, students move to higher levels using Loops, Algorithms and Conditionals battling their way to victory with each correct coding sentence.
Gaming: New! Let’s create our own game using Roblox Studio! While your child has been busy playing everybody else’s games on Roblox, they could have been making their own! Well, we’ll fix that! Students will create and play their game as they learn all about directionals, anchors and how to make a game that others will be challenged by. Each week we will progress until all students test each other’s game out. This is too much fun!!
Robotics: New! The Express bot will be built with Lego ® MINDSTORMS® NXT’s! All robots built will use the express bot as a base. With additions to the build we will make a remote-controlled Forklift and then will play a game of Tag Bot. The base bot gets our students started programming with the basics. The Forklift adds touch sensors to move and control the lifting action of the bot. Our challenge will be to navigate to an object, lift it and return it to the starting point. The Tag bot adds touch sensors to the bumper and an ultrasonic sensor to detect the other bots to tag with the motor-controlled tag arm. The challenge will be to sense and then tag other robots to put them out of commission.
Machines: With Lego ® Simple and Powered Mechanisms our students will become scientists and engineers while understanding mechanical and structural principles in machines used in everyday life. Using technic bricks our students will build Big Game Fishing, Circus Magna and The Walker! Each of these activities will offer their own challenge. Circus Magna and Big Game Fishing employ magnets to produce power and movement while the Walker is motorized with levers using gears and a ratchet help it “Walk” around.
Other building activities and programs will be taught as class time and length permits. Full details will be listed in parent summaries.
