Coding: NEW!  Our kids are getting more intelligent at an earlier age. At Imagine That! we recognize this by offering coding language class for our youngest students. Monster Code Schule uses fun characters to turn on Lanterns and collect Stars by drag and drop commands in a correct sequence. Students will learn about algorithms, loops, sequences and conditionals on their way to learning to write code on their own.

Using what they learned with Monster Code Schule, writing and understanding code will come easily to our Rangers because they will begin writing code using LOGO with MSWLogo. They will write sequences with loops, conditionals and algorithms, but this time they write the code with Basic Syntax.  Just the first step our Rangers are taking to unlock the secrets of computer coding and programming!

Stop Motion Video: NEW! Then we are on to an introduction to Stop Motion Videos where students will create their own stop motion film.  Students will need to use their Sequential Reasoning capabilities and thought processes to create their video.  First, students need to lay out a plan that starts with a story-line followed by the storyboard. As students begin to set up their stage they will have to check and test all equipment for glitches!  In stop motion filming, every step must be taken in the correct order, one small movement at a time, just as a robot is programmed to move from point A to point B. This helps students to gain an understanding of the concepts introduced in coding! Using logic and creativity results in all around great fun!

Robotics:  NEW! Boost Robots:  We will be introducing our newest Robot during our class!  Boost is the newest robotics kit available to our younger robotics kids. Students will build a base robot as they begin to learn the programming process.

Spring sees our Robo Rangers at Imagine That! going on adventures with Lego® WeDo Construction sets! Rescue Airplane, The Giant Escape and the Sailboat Storm take them to distant places as they build, then program machines to move, the computer to make sounds, and imaginations to soar!  Sequences and programming are being reinforced through each activity.  

The Giant lets the Rangers follow the transmission of motion and transfer of energy from the computer to the machine. With the help of programming the Giant sits up as though waking up and then rises to stand.  The Sailboat Storm is motorized to rock back and forth as though it is sailing on a stormy sea. Students should be able to point out the range of motion, be able to tell you where the gear is and identify the gearing down of the machine.  The Airplane Rescue lets students build and program a mechanical airplane that is motorized to change propeller speed as it climbs up and dives down. This happens as the students fly the plane with their hands.  The sensor sends the information back to the computer for response.

Machines:With Lego Technic bricks our students will learn about Levers; building the different concepts to understand that there are different types of levers.  As they advance in understanding, Robo Rangers will build a Drumming Machine and a Windshield Washer.  All of these activities, including the concepts, can be motorized. Rangers can add the motors using ingenuity and understanding of how the axles and gears work with each activity; each works the same way with a little bit of adaptation!

Math: While building with bricks is fun, kids don’t know that they are learning math too! With Lego’s new More to Math Builder program, students will build activities in a digital platform to solve math problems! Robo Rangers will investigate 3 different activities centered around a Pond, Flowers and a Train.  Their goal will be to build successfully according to the information given. Rangers will need to use Reason, abstractly and quantitatively, give a viable argument for their ideas, create a model using mathematics and visually see and make use of structure!  Sit back and watch Imagine That! Grades 2-6  Robo-Tech: An adventure into Coding, Stop Motion, Robotics and Technology

Coding: NEW! Imagine That’s! Kids will have a great time learning Coding Language using CodeCombat! Students will use this platform to learn the science behind computer programming. Robo-Tech kids will choose an Avatar and win armor and gems as they write Python code and play the game in real time. Writing Basic Syntax first, RT kids move to higher levels using Loops, Algorithms and Conditionals battling their way to victory with each correct coding sentence.

Robotics: Robots will be built and programmed with Lego ® MINDSTORMS® NXT’s! Each robot built will concentrate on different functions.  Our first robot will focus on the Touch Sensor. Added to the front end of the robot the touch sensor will depress when it comes into contact with a solid object. Programming will ensure that the bot will back up and turn in a different direction. The Ultrasonic Sensor robot will not need to have physical contact with a solid object. It will sense the wall it’s headed toward and redirect its progression.  The last bot we program will be a Light sensor bot.  This bot will detect different colors with the programming telling the bot if it is going the right way. Students will be able to build robots everyday and learn programming sequences as they go!

Motorized Machines:  With Lego ® Simple and Powered Mechanisms our students will become scientists and engineers while understanding mechanical and structural principles in machines used in everyday life. Using technic bricks our students will build The Tower Crane, A Land Yacht and The Hammer! Each of these activities will offer their own challenge. Are our RT kids up for it?  The Tower Crane uses a Pulley system to lift heavy loads.  How much speed can be used in lifting?  What kind of load might slow it down?  The Land Yacht can move when it has wind power.  How much speed can the Yacht achieve?  What could we do to make the Land Yacht move faster?  The Hammer pounds gears with force.  Is a different force needed for different gears? What might cause this to happen?  RT Kids will solve these puzzles with the science behind Forces, natural and mechanical!

LEGO Architecture Studio: Creation and Design
Lego ®Architecture Studio kits will be used to understand what goes into designing and building a house or structure. What is an Architect? Are there different types of Architects?  Our students will learn about the team that it takes to design, create and build a structure.  After discussing styles of buildings, we will draw out and build a structure in one of the styles discussed.  We will also learn about Blueprints and how to read them. Where did they come from and why?  Once we have an understanding, students will create a blueprint of the structure they previously built.  Then, student’s creativity will be the star.  They will create a blueprint and then use it to build the outline from bricks.

Robotics Club: Minecraft Programming and MINDSTORMS Robots

This program is outlined in detail on our Robotics Club Page.

This is an amazing program for your robotic enthusiast. In order to focus on the programming and robotics the class will be longer and the sessions shorter. The classes will be limited to 10 children.

We will be offering Minecraft Programming and LEGO MINDSTORMS Robotics in the club.
