Option S 1: Rocket Ships and Dinosaurs (Ages 4-5)

This is an exciting camp with all of the hands-on and adventure you and your child can ask for. As you can imagine, this is one of our most popular camps.

Option S 2: Time and Space Adventures (Ages 6-8)

• New format!
• Does your child want to become an astronaut? Do they REALLY like Rockets?
• Would they like to travel to the time of the dinosaurs? Learn what's deep in a cave? Well, this is the camp they have been waiting for!
• We take the children on an adventure of a lifetime as we imagine ourselves in prehistoric times where we:

  • Build and blast off volcanoes
  • Create a Cave in a Box as we learn about Spelunking
  • Learn about the animals, microbes and geology of cave systems

Wacky Science Magic: Ages 6-8

• Dr. Lipid is back and boy is he mad! Our arch enemy is up to no good and we have to stop him!
• Mystery and Magic are yours as the O.X.Y.S. (Only Excellent Youth Scientist ) match their wits against Dr. Lipid, Head of the Organization of M.O.R.O.N.S. (Magical Ogres Reshaping Our Natural Systems). The children will learn many exciting science principles as they work their way through a maze and out of the Castle of Dr. Lipid!
• We use many mysteries to escape from the rooms:
  • Vacuums that draw eggs into a bottle
  • Pass strings through our necks
  • Magically change a liquid’s color with Acid and Bases,
  • Make a can come when called
  • See boxes defy gravity
  • Use flame test to analyze chemicals and make GAC
  • We will put a needle through a balloon
  • Crush a can with atmospheric pressure
  • We will explore the properties of DRY ICE
• This is a camp of adventure! The children learn the science that makes the magic happen and then have the opportunity to present what they learned as they put on a Science Magic Show at the end of the camp for the parents to see.

School of Magic! Ages 9-11

• Let your child explore the world of Science Magic, or in other words: The school of: "That is NOT possible!"
• In our Abnormal Physics class, the children will learn to:
  • Cut off their head with a string
  • Put a needle through a balloon
  • Put a balloon directly over a flame and not have it burst.
  • Make boxes defy gravity
  • Use air to push an egg into a small opening and suck water into a vacuum.
  • Break a stick with atmospheric pressure.
• In the Chemical Potions class we will:
  • Make a substance go from a solid to a gas without melting
  • Make fires burn different colors
  • Mix concoctions that first turn cold then magically hot!
  • Make clear liquids turn colors and make colored liquids change their color.
  • Make objects glow in the dark
  • Write invisible messages
• Don't worry, our magicians in training also must learn the science behind the magic.
  • In the Abnormal Physics classes they will learn about Atmospheric Pressure, Polymers, thermodynamics, the difference between the center of mass and the center of gravity, the concept that vacuums do not suck, but actually create a low pressure zone allowing atmospheric pressure to do the rest.
  • In the Chemical Potions class they will learn about acids, bases, indicators, chemical reactions, flame test, fluorescence, sublimation, exothermic and endothermic reactions and lots more.
• At the end of the week the graduates will have the opportunity to present what they learned as they put on a Science Magic Show for the parents to see.

Option R 10: Mini Bots (Ages 8-9) 

• Introduction to Programming and Robotics using NXT MINDSTORM™ Robots. The students will have a great time as they really get to understand what makes a robot operate. They will build and program robots that interact with their environment.
• The students will learn how programming works and will enjoy seeing the robots perform the task assigned. While there will be time spent assembling the robot, this camp focuses on programming the robot to perform the specific task assigned.
• The students will build and program different exploratory robots to solve problems. They will test not only their programming skills but also their engineering and decision making skills as they determine the best means to accomplish a task.
• The campers will be challenged to build robots for space exploration on a fantastic planet called Pantheon.  They will need to build a walking robot to plant a flag, a scorpion robot to defend their base, a giant claw to construct new hex-based housing, and a sorting machine to sort samples of space rocks for analysis.  With each new robot, campers will learn about building techniques and be challenged to apply them to their own designs.  Students will learn about gears, cams, cranks, differentials, and levers as they build robot parts that can rotate and move back and forth.  They will learn about sensors and center of gravity as they design robots that can stand on their own feet and respond to the environment.
• This camp is open to students new to LEGO MINDSTORM NXT robotics and those who are experienced.  More experienced builders will be challenged to design earlier than those who are new to the system
• There will not be a robot that your child will take home.
• This is a great place to start if you are considering a MINDSTORM Robot for your child or already have one and want to get the most out of it. It is also great preparation for First LEGO League (FLL)

Option R 11: Adventure Bots: (Ages 11-14) 

• This exciting class uses the LEGO® NXT MINDSTORM ™ Robots. The students will learn how programming works and will enjoy seeing the robots perform the task assigned. While there will be time spent assembling the robot, this camp focuses on programming the robot to perform the specific task assigned.
• The campers will be challenged to explore an ancient Mayan pyramid, the tomb of King Ixtua, filled with booby traps!  The students will build and program different exploratory robots to disable the traps so that they can explore the tomb. They will test not only their programming skills but also their engineering and decision making skills as they determine the best means to accomplish a task.
• If you joined us last year, please come back as we will be delving deeper into the temple and unlocking the door to King Ixtua’s throne room!
• This camp will work for both beginner and experienced LEGO NXT MINDSTORM Programmers. The students who are not familiar with MINDSTORMS will have a special training the first day and experienced students will start off with the assigned programs.
• 8 hour extension option:  If your child signs up for an 8 hour camp, they will have the opportunity to explore new challenges.  These challenges will be based on additional fun and exciting programming and engineering tasks, like building a remote control, steering with clapping, robot kickball, and light-fearing and light-loving robots!
• There will not be a robot that your child will take home (please see Option R12 for camp that has a take home robot). This is a great place to start if you are considering a MINDSTORM Robot for your child or already have one and want to get the most out of it. It is also great preparation for First LEGO League (FLL)

Option R 12: Building Bots (Ages 11-14) 

• Build a Robot to take home AND learn to program the LEGO® NXT MINDSTORM ™ Robot.
• Build and TAKE HOME your own autonomous ROBOT that responds to its environment.
  • The students will build a Crawling Microbug.
  • To do this they will learn to solder using lead-free solder for safety
  • Work with circuits boards and Bread Boards
• The students will also be using the LEGO® NXT MINDSTORM® Robots and we will be off to new Adventures!  
  • Using LEGO Educations Green City Challenge, the students will learn to build and program different exploratory robots to solve problems. They will test not only their programming skills but also their engineering and decision making skills as they determine the best means to accomplish a task. The students will learn more about how programming works and will enjoy seeing the robots perform the task assigned.
  • This will give the students a jump start if they ever desire to participate in the First LEGO® League programs.  MINDSTORM classes have never been more fun!
  • Problem solving and math skills used.
• Note: MINDSTORM ROBOTS will not be taken home. The Crawling Microbug will be the take home robot.

Option STR 5-Technically Magic (Ages 4-5) 

• What a great Combination! We will combine the fun of Science Magic with the LEGO® Education's Tech Machines!

  • For every child that asks the question "WHY?"
  • Does your child like to mix, make, laugh and learn? Then this is the camp for you! We mix it up so that your child stays engaged! Dr. Lipid is back and boy is he mad! Our arch enemy is up to no good and we have to stop him!
  • Investigative fun is yours as the O.X.Y.S. (Only eXcellent Youth Scientist ) match their wits against Dr. Lipid, Head of the Organization of M.O.R.O.N.S. (Magical Ogres Reshaping Our Natural Systems). The children will learn many exciting science principles as they work their way through the snares Dr. Lipid left behind!
  • Your child will magically change a liquid’s color and make boxes defy gravity. They will make things fizzle and pop! They will create vacuums that suck eggs into jars! Your child's eyes will be wide with excitement!
  • What more could you want? Well, how about building the coolest machines to help us along they way?
  • You will not believe what your child will be creating with LEGO® Education's Tech Machines! They will build working machines with moving parts using small hand friendly tools such as screwdrivers and integrated screws. These machines have reels, hooks, scoops and propellers! The children will learn science, technology and problem solving, while increasing communication skills and fine motor coordination. All this while having a GREAT time!

Option STR 6: Robo Mania (Ages 6-8)

This will be an incredible combination of science and Technology where we will use the LEGO Education WeDo Robots, Early Simple Machines and Motorized Machines along with experiments that boggle your mind and have the children saying “NO WAY!”

• In this Phenomenal Physics class your child will:
  • Make and take home a working flashlight from scratch as they learn about circuitry, electricity and magnetism.
  • Learn about action and reaction as they experiment with colliding balls, balls and tracks, and create amusement park rides that defy gravity! This is a fun and hands-on way to learn about centrifugal force, friction and Newton's Laws.
• In addition to all of this the students will use LEGO® Technology with the following:
  • Students will get their first introduction to robotics with the exciting LEGO® Education WeDo™ Robotics Software and Construction Set. Students will learn how to program and create a working model, use software media to acquire information, and use feedback to adjust a programming system output. The students will explore a series of cross-curricular, theme-based activities while developing their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, as well as language and literacy.
  • Early Simple Machines and Motorized Machines, the students will focus on one of the following programs: Gears, Levers, Pulleys or Wheels and Axles. Working in teams of two, your child will learn the scientific principles above while getting comfortable with building using the LEGO TECHNIC® pieces. This program will improve your child’s problem solving skills while encouraging team work.
  • There is so much more we cannot begin to cover it here,the only question is will you send your child or yourself to this Incredible Camp!

Option STR 7 Electrified and Robofied Ages 8-10

This camp is an exciting combination of Science and Technology. This camp is for children who love to design and build with their hands. Great for our engineers of the future! (Please note: this is simular to what was offered in our after school Technoscience class. If your child took that class, we recommend a different option for camp)

TECHNOLOGY will incorporate two programs:

• LEGO® Education Pneumatics:  The students will build many machines that are operated by a Pneumatic system.  Explore power systems and components, sequence and control, pressure, prototyping, kinetic and potential energy and much more!
• LEGO® Powered Science & Technology Program: Here the students will build a different motorized and non motorized models each day. These will be models that MOVE and can be modified by the student teams to perform a task in the most optimal method. This will introduce gears and pulleys, structural design, forces and motion, energy and more. This will help the students understand how robots move.

In ELECTRICAL SCIENCE we will:

• Learn about electrical circuits, bread boards and circuit boards
• See the inside working of a motor and learn the relationship between Electricity and Magnetism
• Create and take home a model of an electric house where they create their own switches, wiring, series and parallel light circuits, for a 4 room model home.
• Create a MagLev racer that they can take home. They will have the oportunity to race these on the MagLev train track.
• Make, modify and take home an electric car that responds to it's environment..
• Interact with many different robots and understand what "makes something a Robot".

Option STR 8: Technically CRAZY! Ages 7-10

This camp is an incredible combination of Science and Technology where we will use the LEGO Crazy Contraptions and Technics, along with science experiments that are intricatly linked to the technology so that all concepts are reinforced with applications that happen in the real world.

• In the science portion the students will build and take home a crane that uses gears, wheels, and levers to operate.
• In addition to all of this the students will use LEGO® Technology with the following:
  • Crazy Contraptions: These are just plain fun and the teachers (and students) favorites.
  • Technic's: These activities really get down to the bones of how things work. Each structure that is built will have additional supporting non-LEGO materials that will reinforce the activities being taught.
  • Once the students have built many machines and structures they will have the oportunity to break apart VCR's and other machines to see what is inside! Using the knowledge they have accumulated during camp, they will have the opportunity to create new working machines from what they remove.
  • Don't miss this exciting camp!
• Please note: The technology involved here is more suitable to older students. While mature 7 year olds can do this camp, it is suggested that another option is selected if your child is a younger 7 year old.

Option STR 9: X-treme Builders Camp (Ages 11-14) 

• This will be for those who LOVE building advanced and complicated structures and LEGO Machines.
• For the Science, They will work in teams to incorporate engineering design into building advanced cranes and other machines.    Structural testing criteria include column buckling, compression, mechanical advantage, stability, rotational overturning and more.
• The technology is reserved for our oldest students only. If your child loves building very challenging structures with LEGO's this will be the camp for them! The builders will need to have a more in depth knowledge of LEGO building and pieces. The activities are motorized, pneumatics powered and also non-motorized. Some of the activities that they build will include a walking dinosaur, a crane, a submarine a zepplin, and a motorized cable car.
• The activities built will be use universal joints, piston connectors, knowledge of structural integrity and an imagination to step outside the box and try new building techniques.

Imagine That! uses its own special brand of creativity to create age appropriate Art programs that encourage a love of art and a tremendous sense of self confidence! Our exceptional program offers personalized instruction in drawing and painting plus some exciting age appropriate craft activities.  Your fabulous artists will become familiar with using perspective, shading, color mixing, proportion, framing and composition. This will enable your child to capture their subject on paper, canvas, tiles, & more!

• PreK-1st: We will work with your young artist to help them develop their ability to create and express themselves through many different media. In addition to painting and drawing, we will use many different materials and crafts to help them refine their eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills.
• 2nd-8th: Our older art students will work with fine arts techniques to improve their ability to draw and paint with confidence! In addition, they will have age appropriate crafts. New this year: Anime will be taught for our older students.

Option AST 14 Young Explorers:  Don't Bug Me (Ages 3-4) Art and Science Camp

The children will love being young Environmental and Earth Scientist as they have hands-on exploration. We believe that each of us can create our own world view and learn to love some of those things we don't always understand! We love our "Buggy Friends" and as we see things through the eyes of a bug, we will help your child understand and love them too!

• The class will see active ant farms and go through a metamorphosis!
• Your child will clean up an oil spill, and will cheer their worm on in the worm races!
• We will make our room into a spiders web.
• We will fly with the birds, go on bug hunts, zip up xylems and flow down phloem's and much more!
• The Art is fun and creative as they make bees, ecosystems, animals out of clay and lots of other exciting arts and crafts.

Option AST 15 Young Explorers  Bees, Trees and Bugs (Ages 5-7)

Option AST 18 Around the World Science Art and Technology (Ages 6-8)

If your child loves to do it all, this is a great option. We will study the art, science and technology of four different Cultures.

• Paris
  • Learn Structures as we make Model Bridges
  • Learn to paint like the Impressionist Masters
  • Learn about how light works as we study the "City of Lights"
  • Use LEGO Technology to learn about the forces and structure of the famous bridges of London
• Egypt
  • Science and Technology: Learn how to move giant stones for Pyramids, Learn the science behind Mummy making and make and paint our own Sarcophagus
  • Egyptian Art
  • Technology will use Technics and Crazy contraptions to learn the physics behind rolling and sliding.
• Italy
  • Ah, the smells and taste of this beautiful country! We will learn how these affect our senses.
  • We will learn about structures as we investigate why the Leaning Tower of Pisa.... well, leans!
  • We will learn how the master created portraits and create some of our own.
  • Use LEGO Technology to learn about the forces and structure of towers
• Native Peoples of the Americas
  • Make Rainsticks, learn to barter and trade.

Option AST 19 The Creators (Ages 9-12) Art, Science and Technology

• Art: In addition to drawing and painting, the art portion will focus on fun craft activities such as Grand Canyon Drawings, Aztec Art and Cave Drawings
• Science and Technology: In this class we will learn about cause and effect in our world.  We will focus on physics as we ask the following questions. 
  • What is the Impact of Dropping an egg from a great height and what can we do to keep it from breaking?  How can we apply that to a helmet design?  How can we reduce the force of impact?
  • What is the Impact of a vacuum on a liquid and a solid?  Design a "Ball Spitter".
  • What is the Impact of Rotational Velocity on a sphere?  Can that give us the spin we need on a ball?   
  • What is the Impact of centrifugal force and how does that keep us in our seats on amusement park rides? 
  • What is the result of a sudden Impact on a physical object such as ball?  How can this help us in sports?  Is that what the “sweet spot” is?
  • What is the impact of Inertia and Friction on the table cloth and china trick?  Can we make this help us in daily life and sports activities?
  • We will also investige light, mirrors and lasers.
    

This is a great camp for students with inquiring minds who want to know the reason why. Each question will have a series of cool and exciting experiment and activities to help them answer them questions.  They will also be encouraged to take it to another step and develop their own questions and experiments to prove or disprove their theories.

Option Artrageous Art Adventures

Learning art will be fun as we draw and paint still life's, figures, landscapes, and more. We will take you through step-by-step techniques to leave your artist more comfortable and capable of capturing their subject on paper.

New Projects for this summer: Bark Painting, Rolled Paper Crafts, Stained Glass Art, Grand Canyon Painting, and Loom Weaving.
